MV Swimmer Michael Leung to be a UMaine Black Bear in Fall 2017

Michael Leung is a key component of his swim team here at MV. He began swimming at only two years old with his dad. When he was eight, he joined his first swimming club. Now, he has been blessed with the opportunity to swim for UMaine in the Fall of 2017. The Eagle Eye was able to interview him about what his future has in store! Not only is this interview entertaining, but it is also helpful for other high school students who are looking to pursue athletics in college.

An unprecedented career comes to a "LoChir"close: MV football star set to graduate, play for Bryant University in the fall

I had the chance to catch up with Mystic Valley football phenom James LoChirco recently. The senior completed his final season as a do-it-all player for the Eagles in November, capping what has been an unprecedented career in the history of MV athletics. James graduates this spring, and he plans to attend and play football for Division I Bryant University in the fall of 2018. Here is what he had to say about his college search experience and what the future holds:

Gotta getcha head in the game: MV girls' basketball earning wins, reaching milestones

The Mystic Valley Regional Charter School girls basketball team has begun the year with a great start. They are only three games into the season, and junior shooting-guard Menel Lamadzema scored the 1,000th point of her career. This makes her the youngest person in MV history to achieve the four digit point total.

Megan Foley (Class of '16) holds the current record for most points scored in a career at MV with 1,514. Some projections for the future show Menel reaching 2,000 points, which is an accomplishment that has never been achieved in school history.

A juggling act: Mei investigates winter sports' players' midterm schedules

Swimmers and basketball players....I can’t believe I have to write about them...just kidding! Aside from the fact that swimming and basketball are decidedly not my cup of tea, they do have one other thing in common. They’re both winter sports at Mystic Valley. Oh yeah, and MV's swimming and basketball teams are both historically REALLY GOOD. In school, there are two things we dread about winter each year: cold rooms and midyear exams.

Because of my recent involvement in winter sports, I have always wondered how winter athletes prepare for the third most important tests they’ll take in high school (behind MCAS and SAT). I talked with a number of winter athletes and their three coaches: Mr. Dan for Varsity Swimming, Mr. Cantwell for Varsity Girl’s Basketball, and Professor Tony Ferullo of Suffolk University for Varsity Boy’s Basketball.

Lamadzemamazing!: Junior becomes youngest in MV history to score 1,000 points

Last night, sophomore guard Menel Lamadzema scored her 1,000th point against the Greater Lowell Gryphons on an outside 3 point shot. She then went on to continue to score 31 points the rest of the game.

Will Lamadzema catch Meghan Foley's (Class of '16) record of 1,514 career points and become the top scorer ever in Mystic Valley history ? We will soon find out as the season continues please come out and support the Eagles at their first home game against Lowell Catholic on Sunday January 8th.

St. Clements gets served on varsity volleyball's senior night

Seniors Sarah Desantis, Ashley Martorana, Julia Powers, and Amanda Sutherland celebrated their MV Varsity season on October 26 by dancing through a tunnel formed by other teammates, on their way to having photos taken with family and friends.

From Eagle to... Polar Bear?: Guerrier recruited to play football at Bowdoin College

The disparity between high school and college athletics can be immense. Not only are students older and more experienced in terms of talent when they reach the college level, institutions have a larger pool of players to draw from when it comes to recruiting than a typical high school. As such, it is often an exciting development when a high school student is invited to play at the college level, as is the case with Mystic Valley senior football player Sydney Guerrier.

For the second straight year and the second time in their history, the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School football team has advanced to the MIAA Regional Quarterfinals after a 40-6 dismantling of the Lynn Tech Tigers.

The Mystic Valley Regional Charter School varsity girls’ soccer team scored their first win in seven games with a 2-1 victory at home over Greater Lowell Technical High School on October 13^th, improving their record to 3-8-2.

Crew Slew!

      Kicking off with fall sports, the crew team of Mystic Valley has been practicing rigorously from four to six in the afternoon. If you do not know, the crew team specializes in rowing boats and to test their skill against other crew teams. The crew matches are called crew meets.

Boys Soccer Loses to Shawsheen

The Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s varsity boys’ soccer team fell to Shawsheen Valley Technical High School on October 3^rd by a final score of 5-2. The road loss dropped the team’s overall record to 4-5. Freshman midfielder Soufyane Missbah El Idrissi scored for the Eagles.
