Kicking
off with fall sports, the crew team of Mystic Valley has been practicing
rigorously from four to six in the afternoon. If you do not know, the crew team
specializes in rowing boats and to test their skill against other crew teams.
The crew matches are called crew meets.
“No
one wins in a crew meet, they just participate,” said freshman Colby Orton.
Although their meets have not been advertised as much as other sports, watching
them is very memorable.
One
memorable event that occurred was that one of Mystic Valley crew canoes sank in
the chilling water. “The waves that hit the boat were four feet tall, and an
ambulance had to pick me up shortly after,” said freshman Allen St. Claire.
Though
that event occurred, Allan and the other crew rowers are doing just fine.
Besides, both Allan and Colby also implied that the rest of their meets
went well.
On
October 18 some crew members participated in the Head of the Charles Regatta,
an event that occurs each year. This race is one of the major crew races around
the world. The racers in the regatta were seniors Amy Nguyen, Kyle Manley, Jack
Callanan, Jimmy Sickler and Gaetano Cerundolo. The Mystic Valley racers placed
64 out of 84 boats.
