The Mystic Valley Regional Charter School girls basketball team has begun the year with a great start. They are only three games into the season, and junior shooting-guard Menel Lamadzema scored the 1,000th point of her career. This makes her the youngest person in MV history to achieve the four digit point total.

Megan Foley (Class of '16) holds the current record for most points scored in a career at MV with 1,514. Some projections for the future show Menel reaching 2,000 points, which is an accomplishment that has never been achieved in school history.

The Eagles have been a powerhouse and only lost one game to Lowell Catholic to this point, where they only fell short by 3 points.

The starting line up is 8th grader point guard Kate Story, Lamadzema at shooting-guard, sophomore shooting guard Talia Mamayek, center Guercy Jean-Pierre, and junior forward Anastasia Bessler. Lamadzema averages about 24 points a game, leading the team in scoring. Quite ironically, Story, the shortest member of the team, also leads them in rebounds.

Story is off to a great varsity basketball career and it is exciting to see that even though she is only in 8th grade she is able to keep up with the fast paced game and be a key player on the court.

Jean-Pierre is also a key player to rebounding and scoring on the offensive plays.

Some MV sophomores have been playing together since middle school: Tara Foley, Michela Correale, Anastasia Bessler, Talia Mamayek, Gwen Rhuda, Sophia Mercurio, and Lily Rhuda. These girls bring prospects of a very bright future of the girls’ varsity Mystic Valley program to come.

Another player to watch out for is Isabel Ospina, who is the only freshman, and shows great prospects of future things to come. The Eagles are favored to win CACs, and go very far in the MIAA tournament.
