NFL Protest: Appropriate or Disrespectful?

In 2016, San Francisco 49ers Colin Kaepernick protested police brutality and racial equality by
kneeling during the national anthem, starting a movement that athletes would continue throughout
2017. The protest caused mixed reactions; some people support the movement while others believe
it’s unpatriotic and disrespectful to those who’ve served. But is it really disrespectful?

Fall Tunes: Marraccino gives music suggestions

Well, it’s fall, and we all know that there's nothing better than jamming to some fall tunes, so we’re gonna lay down some funky jams.

1. "Wake Me Up When September Ends" by Green Day. Nothing's like a little rock and roll to kick off your autumn season (even though its past September).

2. "Autumn in New York" by Frank Sinatra. While Frank Sinatra may be an oldie, it never fails to give a feeling of peace, and it shows beauty in the fall time, regardless of where you may be.

SAT, ACT, applications, scholarships, tuition, GPA- all these things will be swarming through your mind once you reach the ending of your junior year. It will feel overwhelming juggling both college things  and your school work, but if you follow these few simple tips, all of this will seem like a piece of cake!

Alright, my obsession with this food truck started when the newspaper club went on a field trip to the Boston Herald.  After we were done with the tour of the Herald our club went to a spot in the middle of Boston to get something to eat for lunch before we headed back to school.

After watching all three presidential debates, I felt as if I could see the personalities/morals of the candidate's’ supporters. Both candidates (Hillary Clinton and Donald J. Trump) also revealed their true colors during the debates, and affected opinions that many people had about the candidates’ characters. An iconic example of this would be Kenneth Bone, who made his debut in the second presidential debate as one of the undecided voters (who just also happened to look like a character from Toy Story 2). Bone mentioned in a phone interview that he was leaning towards Trump at first, but after participating in the debate, Hillary “really impressed me with her composure and some of her answers” and that he was “a little let down” by Trump’s personal attacks towards Hillary.

'Taylor' made for college: Class of '15 grad dishes on life post-MV

High school is, by its nature, an ever-changing environment. Each year, new faces grace 306 Highland Avenues’ hallways and classrooms in the form of freshmen, and well-traveled seniors move on to bigger and better things. Despite this, Mystic Valley’s graduates always leave an important mark on the school by way of their example and their endeavors in the future. As such, although the environment at MV might be directly impacted by those who currently make up the student body, it has evolved and continues to be affected by the people who came before them.

Melinda Taylor graduated from Mystic Valley as a member of the class of 2015, and she is currently attending Gordon College in Wenham, MA, majoring in psychology and music. She was kind enough to share a few of her experiences and some advice with the current MV students. This is what she had to say in a recent interview:

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School has approached the state of Massachusetts requesting a cap increase, and, as of now, it is very likely that this proposed idea will be granted.

PSATease: He and Nguyen seek test takers' opinions on recent exams

On October 14, 2015, approximately 3.5 million sophomores and juniors attending high schools all across the nation took either the PSAT/NMSQT, or, in other words, the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Whether or not they bombed or aced the PSATs, students will receive their scores in December of 2015 or early January of 2016. Sophomores at Mystic Valley took the test for practice, because next year, students will be aiming for a scholarship, which is what the juniors faced last Wednesday.

How much is too much?: Analyzing the Extended Essay and other IB deadlines

As the school year is quickly moving along, the class of 2016 is trying to spot the light at the end of the tunnel. This is seemingly impossible, though, due to all of the upcoming deadlines. The consensus from seniors seems to be that the Extended Essay, or “EE”, is the most daunting of them all.

The EE is one of many assessments needed to achieve the IB Diploma. Students are allowed a decent amount of leeway when it comes to creating their essay in the sense that it is based on a subject matter of their choosing, and it may not exceed 4,000 words.
