On November 10th, teachers and students from all grades were bused over to the Eastern Avenue facility to listen to a presentation by Tom Birmingham. Topics of conversation included the importance of exercising citizenship and the history of charter schools.

Faces of MV: Rebecca Senat

"City Year is a program that I have decided to pursue after high school. It is a program that is eleven months long. Basically, it’s a group of many young adults coming together to help students who are not matching their grade’s standards. It is from third grade to about twelfth grade. I decided to stay in Boston to be around my family and friends. I will be mentoring the kids- similar to action service. You’re helping kids with their homework, helping children attain different skills… many of the kids I met on shadow day struggled with speaking English, some lived in a single parent home, or were even abused so they needed help emotionally. I am the extra support in the classroom besides the teacher. After I am done with City Year, I would like to pursue education in college. I want to become a social worker within a school, or maybe become a principle. City Year is giving me a first look at school, not as a student, but as a faculty member. I will be able to see what teachers do inside and outside the classroom. I’ll be there first hand to see what actions teachers, principals, and counselors take."

GSA to participate in AIDs walk June 2017

According to the GSA Network Organization, GSA is "student run club, typically in a high school, which provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about  issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression." Mystic Valley's GSA club meets every Thursday morning in the tech lab. It is led by Ms. Martindale and club president Kris Porzio.

This month, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School students have been selected to showcase their art in the Youth Art Month Exhibit. Congratulations to senior Musnad Alam, junior Jolie Powell, sophomores Tsz Chan, Talia Mamayak and Faith Pan, and freshman Adam Carroll, whose works will be displayed for public viewing.

I joined Youth and Government (also known as YaG) when Emily Daponta told me about a program that would allow me to get my photo taken and dress up nicely in the Statehouse. I had never heard of it before, but it sounded fun!

Cooking with Liam: Locke reviews local food truck Bon Me

Alright, my obsession with this food truck started when the newspaper club went on a field trip to the Boston Herald.  After we were done with the tour of the Herald our club went to a spot in the middle of Boston to get something to eat for lunch before we headed back to school.

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School has approached the state of Massachusetts requesting a cap increase, and, as of now, it is very likely that this proposed idea will be granted.

Boda Borg Opens in Malden in October

        We sat down with the owner of the first Boda Borg in America, located on Pleasant Street in Malden, on Sunday October 11^th to discuss their business and its movement to the states. Boda Borg is a Swedish entertainment company, and the Malden location is the first to open in the United States.

        Boda Borg's website describes the new building at 90 Pleasant Street as a “real-world gaming environment.” People in groups of three to five choose a “quest” that they wish to do and, without any instruction, navigate through each room using clues.
